By Clinton McGregor    As concerns mount about the surge in road fatalities, members of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) met Wednesday to discuss the crisis.   Vice Chair of the Council, Dr. Lucien Jones said the members discussed implementation of the new Road Traffic Act and its accompanying regulations, which they hope will stop the carnage on the roads.    Among the issues discussed was the ticketing system, which he said would be more efficient when the provisions of the Act are in place.    Dr. Jones warned that when that time comes, “driver’s licence will be suspended and huge fines incurred by those who continue to speed, drive ‘out and bad’, run the red lights and engage in other dangerous practices on our roads”.   The NRSC Vice Chairman said Jamaicans can expect a major deployment of police personnel on the roads for the festive season.    “The National Road Safety Council, working with its many stakeholders, is intent on curbing the alarmingly high number of people dying on our roads during the run up to the Christmas period and way beyond. We have just got to stop the madness on our roads and give people a chance to enjoy life and not have them planning funerals,” he declared.     Dr. Jones said 387 people have died in road crashes so far this year.
